Beautiful – The Carole King Musical at The National Theatre is an absolute can’t miss. It is one of the most wonderful and entertaining shows I have ever seen.
This Tony and Grammy Award-winning show begins in the early stages of King’s career using a procession of hit songs she wrote (many with her husband/partner, Gerry Goffin) for other artists, and follows her through heartbreak and triumph ending with her debut at Carnegie Hall where she performs songs off her four-time Grammy-winning album, Tapestry.

Her life and relationship with her then-husband, and their best friends, fellow songwriters and composers, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, is enthralling and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The show is peppered with hits they wrote such as “Yakety-Yak,” “There Goes My Baby,” “One Fine Day,” and “Be-Bop-A-Lula,” as well as performances by The Shirelles, The Drifters, and more.

Every scene is better than the last. Sarah Bockel as Carole King is simply phenomenal. She makes you feel King’s joys and sorrows every step of the way, while her voice leaves you with chills and wishing the show would never end.

The stage and costumes were breathtaking. Bright, colorful, and truly capturing the feel of the times.
