Monday, Aug. 23, 11 AM:
Railroad Signs & Signals Tour
In this tour, you will discover how signs and signals have evolved over the last 200 years on the railroad. Learn how they signaled trains before there was electricity and what signaling devices look like today on the railroad. End your tour by playing a game to learn all the ways a red flag was used as a signaling device.
Tuesday, Aug. 24, 11 AM:
LEGO Workshop: Transportation Physics
In this LEGO workshop, participants will learn how design elements in cars and trains can affect their speed and efficiency. Through the engineering design process of plan, create, test and improve you will work to build the fastest vehicle of the group and race it against your friends on our metal racetrack.
Wednesday, Aug. 25, 11 AM:
Maryland on the Rails Tour
This tour will examine how Maryland before 1827 became an ideal location for the B&O Railroad and as a result how the B&O Railroad has continued to contribute to the robust history of the state of Maryland.
Thursday, Aug. 26, 1: 30 PM:
Railroad Bridge Engineering Workshop
In this workshop, participants will learn about different types of railroad bridges and then test their design skills by building their own model bridge.
Friday, Aug. 27, 1: 30 PM:
Technology Changes: Innovations in Locomotive Design Tour
This tour will use our historic collection to explore the technological advancements that happened in B&O facilities like the Mount Clare Shops.
