Hip-Hop’s Great Day: Gordon Parks and a Legacy of Photographic Inspiration
February 17 @ 2:00 pmFree
In a multidimensional presentation and discussion, artist and educator Adrian Loving and scholar Vikki Tobak explore the visual influences of Gordon Parks’s legacy in photography and film, particularly his famous photograph A Great Day In Hip Hop (XXL Magazine) from September 1998. Tracing his impact on music videos directed by artists such as Fab 5 Freddy and Kendrick Lamar, Loving and Tobak celebrate Parks’s ingenuity, dedication, and power. An excerpt from Nelson George’s latest film, A Great Day in Hip Hop, is also screened and discussed. A book signing of Contact High: The Visual History of Hip-Hop follows the presentation.
