Need to Read!: Summer Reading Camp for Second Graders
June 16, 2021 @ 11:30 am - July 9, 2021 @ 12:35 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:30 am on Wednesday and Friday, repeating until July 9, 2021

The Need to Read!©2008 Summer Reading Camp is a Summer Reading Challenge that will meet twice a week for 1-hour with a 5-minute break in-between to transition to the virtual learning experiences. The first 30 minutes of class will include reading and reading comprehension instruction with an informal assessment (not graded). Summer Readers will read a collection of short stories on a variety of topics, including nature, animals, and various fictional stories. Summer Readers will strengthen their reading fluency skills, learn new vocabulary, and have focused reading comprehension questions for each text. The second 30 minutes of class will include virtual learning experiences related to the daily text (i.e. pre-screened-related video clips, virtual field trips, hands-on activities at home). The 5-minute transitional break may include a brain break activity or an instrumental, age-appropriate musical selection, allowing Summer Readers the opportunity to transition successfully.
This camp is an ongoing class where Summer Readers may drop in on the topic of their choice. If a Summer Reader misses a class, no worries! Each class is a stand-alone session and does not require students to attend each class for enrichment. All texts are grade-level appropriate. Please contact me via OutSchools communication if you have any questions about which class to register your child for and which grade-level camp will be appropriate. All you really need is to come with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, knowing that we all “Need to Read!”.
