Looking for an outdoor adventure to enjoy this beautiful weather? Look no further than Harper’s Ferry.
Only 40 minutes outside of Montgomery County, this is historical little town and it’s fall foliage is absolutely breathtaking! Harper’s Ferry is bursting with beauty and history!
There is so much to do, we were able to spend the whole day here. We started with a hike (my 4 and 6 year old had no problem keeping up) through the Shenandoah trail that overlooks the Shenandoah River.
We left the trail at Harper’s Cemetery for one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen.
The main street is built into the side of the mountain and is sprinkled with unique shops, bakeries, restaurants, and cafes. After exploring the quaint town, we head over to walk across the Footbridge. This was absolutely awesome.
We walked along the shoreline for over an hour collecting shells, taking in the scenery, and reading about all the amazing history that has happened there. One of my favorite stops was John Brown’s Fort.
Know before you go:
Parking around town is free!
Lots of little cafes and restaurants in town, plus lots of great spots for picnics
Not stroller friendly, unless you plan on only walking the outside streets. Most of the buildings are over 200 years old, and therefore very small, plus there are steps in almost every direction since the town is built on the side of a mountain
The trails overlooking the river have steep drop-offs, so make sure you have an adult to hold hands with any little ones
