Flower Child is a fast-casual restaurant that believes in Healthy Food for a Happy World. I had heard there were locations opening in Bethesda, Rockville and Foggy Bottom, so when we were invited to dine at Flower Child I was excited to try it for myself. Flower Child is changing the way we eat healthy with a menu of made-to-order dishes from scratch using fresh and responsibly sourced ingredients. The menu features organic produce guided by the dirty dozen list. Healthy food can be simple and delicious. The happy and bright atmosphere at Flower Child is just another reminder that healthy eating can be a positive experience.
Flower Child has made dietary restrictions easy with a menu featuring vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, Paleo and Keto options. I’m a very adventurous eater, but it’s tiresome to see the same superfood in every ‘healthy’ dish. What I love most about Flower Child is the variety. There are starters, salads, wraps, bowls and plates featuring flavors, ingredients and dishes from the Mediterranean, Asia and Americas. The proteins offered include all natural chicken, sustainable salmon, grass-fed steak and organic Non-GMO tofu. I had the Vietnamese Crunch salad with steak and it was delicious. If it wasn’t for the spicy lemongrass vinaigrette my girls would have eaten the whole thing!

As a parent the biggest challenge to eating out has always been the dilemma to order what the kids will eat or what I want them to eat. No one wants to battle over food while eating out. At Flower Child you don’t have to choose. The children’s menu at Flower Child allows you to pick a protein and two sides of your choice. The food is simple and tasty. My kids had all had gluten free mac & cheese and fruit with their chicken, tofu or salmon. We don’t usually order tofu or salmon for the kids at restaurants because they tend to be prepared with spices and ingredients the kids don’t like, but Flower Child keeps things basic. Don’t misunderstand me, they were delicious! So delicious, I didn’t argue when they were too full to finish and I got their leftovers. The atmosphere is very family friendly and there are coloring pages and etch-a-sketch to keep kids happy while they wait.
Flower Child offers a variety of beverages as well. My kids loved the lemonade! They enjoyed trying new flavors which helps to expand their flavor pallet. For adults there is also iced tea, cold brew coffee, local beer and wine. The deserts were a huge hit. We tried the lemon cake, gluten free chocolate chip cookie and gluten free brownie. We had two votes for the cookie, two for the brownie and one for the cake. The take home is there is no bad dessert at Flower Child.
I think the best way to describe the food at Flower Child is food you would cook healthy food at home if you had the time. It’s fresh, it’s simple and it’s delicious. We can’t wait to stop in and enjoy more easy and delicious family meals at Flower Child.
