SOMETHING TO DANCE ABOUT Jerome Robbins, Broadway at the Ballet (Bernstein, Bock, Gould, Rodgers, Styne/Robbins, direction and musical staging by Carlyle)

Apr. 2, 3 & 7, explore a program blending masters of the past with bright lights of the future. Choreographer Gianna Reisen’s Composer’s Holiday is set to Lukas Foss’s Three American Pieces, for violin and piano. George Balanchine’s Kammermusik No. 2 echoes Hindemith’s modernist score with jagged lines and stylized gestures, while Symphony in C—his grand classical masterpiece performed to Bizet—dazzles with over 50 dancers. Set to Prokofiev’s feverish concerto, Jerome Robbins’s Opus 19/The Dreamer follows a male protagonist on a journey to find his elusive counterpart.

Apr. 4–6, two Kennedy Center premieres, created for the centennial of Jerome Robbins, include Justin Peck’s Easy set to the music of Leonard Bernstein, and Tony®-winning choreographer/director Warren Carlyle’s SOMETHING TO DANCE ABOUT, featuring notable dance sequences from On the Town, West Side Story, and more. Also by Robbins, In the Night features three couples of distinct personality set to four of Chopin’s elegant nocturnes. Kyle Abraham’s The Runaway, another Kennedy Center premiere, fuses modern and classical technique with imaginative costumes by Giles Deacon, set to an eclectic soundtrack including hip-hop giants Jay-Z, Kanye West, and others.
