No Festival in 2020 means they need your support now more than ever!!
For the past 10 years, this Festival has raised critical dollars to support the thousands of DC school kids who use Kingman Island over the course of a year to learn about the environment – and they still need your support to continue this important work.
- For those who have already purchased tickets, please consider allowing them to retain funds as a donation to the Kingman & Heritage Islands Education and Community Fund. Your donation is 100% tax-deductible and would greatly help us in this time of uncertainty! This option requires no action on your part.
- Please consider making an additional donation to include what you would have spent at the Festival.
- For those who have not purchased tickets yet, please consider making a donation!
Thank you for your support of Living Classrooms, the Festival, and Kingman & Heritage Islands.

The Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival is an annual event that celebrates community, springtime, and the musical talent that resides in our region. But most importantly, the Festival supports stewardship of Kingman and Heritage Islands and Living Classrooms’ outstanding educational programs that serve thousands of DC children, youth, and adults each year.

Mipso, Front Country, and Kat Wright slated to headline Living Classrooms’ 11th Annual Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at a family-friendly event on an island in the Anacostia River.

As always, the festival will feature a roster of musical talent spread across multiple stages from all wards of the city, surrounding regions, backgrounds, cultures, genders, old and young, that represent the diverse roots of bluegrass, folk, and Americana, as well as their modern interpretations.
The day will also include craft beer and cocktails, various outdoor activities, a kids’ tent, local merchants’ marketplace, and some of the best food trucks in DC. This is a can’t miss event!
As the District’s premier zero-waste event, the Festival will once again feature re-usable souvenir cups, compostable food containers, recycling and waste stations, and limited use of disposable products. Through a partnership with the DPW and DOEE, the Festival has successfully reduced landfill waste by over 80% at the past four years.
Living Classrooms plans to build on this success at the 2020 Festival. Please leave your single-use containers at home!

Kingman Island is a gateway to DC’s Anacostia River and true “living classroom,” connecting youth and the community to the environment and river. Proceeds from the Festival support stewardship of the island and hands-on education programming provided by Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region.
We had an amazing experience last year at the Festival. Our kids favorite parts included: Anacostia River boat tour, Kids zone, dancing to live music and the delicious food. We hope you will join us on the island this year! Get your tickets early and save $10!
