KID Museum is a STEAM wonderland! I could go on & on about all the cool things going on there, but their website is so easy to use, so why bother? Throughout their programming they have robotics, engineering, woodworking, design, textiles, animation, 3-D printing, electronics, coding and smart technology. Basically it breaks down into awesome regular STEAM workshops that are separated by age groups and themes, featured STEAM programs, STEAM camps for winter and summer that make you wish you were a kid again, open explore and workshop birthday parties.
We attended the Mini-Makers: Make it Move Program which starts with open explore in the main room of KID Museum. The kids had access to the Pipe Dreams installation which is essentially building an oversized marble run using pipes and balls. Most of the kids started in here and worked together building and playing. The other installation that attracted masses was Ping, where kids build tubes that they can use to transport ping pong balls through. There are stationary ball deposits and tubes that run from one side of the room to the other with plenty of space for kids to design and engineer in between.
There was a story time and brief introduction to the theme: Make it Move. The majority of the class was devoted to constructing a car chassis and fabricating their dream car. The car chassis was made using a piece of corrugated cardboard with thin dowels as axels threaded through the gaps in the corrugation. Cardboard wheels were attached using a bead as a spacer. Once each kid constructed their chassis they were encouraged to try it out and ensure it was functional before moving on to the design phase. The class ended with car races on the ramp and more open explore time. My almost 5 year old was having so much fun I practically had to drag her out with promises that we would come back toΒ KID Museum soon.
Regular hours for KID Museum are Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am – 5:00pm. Admission for nonmembers isΒ $12 (includes child + 2 adults).Β Family memberships at KID Museum are $160 and can be used by any combination of immediate family members (includes up to two adults and unlimited children).
PROS: The regular programs offered range from grades K-7. The consistent exhibits are enough to entertain preschool aged kids for several hours. The classes are interdisciplinary. The teachers are very energetic, patient & knowledgeable. The programs offered teach important STEAM knowledge and useful skills. There are tables and chairs along the side for parents. The facility is well maintained & clean.
CONS: Preschool programs are not a part of the regular programs.
In exchange for my time and efforts in attending and reporting my opinion within this blog, as well as keeping you advised of the latest events, I received complimentary admission. Even though I receive these benefits, I always give an opinion that is 100% mine.
