The Capitol Steps is a time-honored performance in Washington DC, pulling their content from the headlines to perform satirical songs. The best way to describe the Capitols Steps is standup comedy meets Broadway. The original performers were Senate Staffers who enjoyed mocking their employers in musical form. Although not all the performers are still involved in politics, the Capitol Steps have not lost their edge. The Capitol Steps are bi-partisan, mocking both parties equally. I saw the Capitol Steps as a young DC area native during the Clinton Administration. The content may change, but the show is just as hilarious! The impressions are spot on! Corey Harris as Obama is uncanny. Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and even Vladimir Putin made appearances during the show we saw.

The current political climate is one that is well suited for satire, which may be a double edge sword. The headlines are packed with sources of comedy, but the stories are breaking and changing so rapidly it could be hard to stay current. Yet, the Capitol Steps stay current, unbiased and side-splitting.
