We love when Monster Jam comes roaring to town! You can check out our previous Monster Jams reviews here and here. My girls love to watch the big trucks racing, jumping, and flipping- especially during the donuts, two-wheeling and freestyle events. We love that men and women drivers compete in the same events and for the same titles in Monster Jam (one of the few sports in the US that competes this way!). We always check to see if there are any girl drivers and cheer for them like crazy. We were in luck because Krysten Anderson was driving for team Grave Digger during our show, and she won!
The trucks got some insane air during the Freestyle event. Our kids’ minds were blown to see the massive trucks soaring above the 15-20 foot fence. I would recommend the Pit Party if your family is interested in meeting the drivers or getting up close to the trucks and ATVs. Getting up close to the trucks at the Pit Party really puts the size and power of these machines into perspective. Plus you can enjoy some kids activities before the show!
We usually catch Monster Jam in an arena, so this was our first trip to Hagerstown Speedway and the stadium experience was quite different. The size and layout of the track determine which events are possible. For example, the monster trucks can do donuts in an arena, but not at Hagerstown Speedway. However, the Speedway is longer and allows for more space during the Freestyle event. While general admission seating at Hagerstown Speedway gets you closer to the action, it is much more hectic, especially with kids, than assigned seats in an arena.
I was really disappointed that the facilities at Hagerstown Speedway were not very family-friendly. The ‘no reentry’ rule doesn’t allow families to return to their cars to cool off or replenish their water, leaving under the grandstands as the only option to keep out of the sun. The lines for concessions are long, but it’s the only way to get any water on the premise. We spent half our time waiting in line just to get water. We have attended a lot of crowded and hot events, but this was the most uncomfortable. We loved the show, don’t get me wrong, but doubt we would return to the Hagerstown Speedway.
