We experienced our first monster truck show! This is probabaly the most *duh* statement I’ll make today, but it was LOUD! You definitely need bring ear plugs of some sort before or pay hiked up prices to purchase them on sight.
My kids really loved seeing the trucks jump and crush other cars! There is a bit of time killing between each “set”, which, mixed with the August heat, led to a bit of whining. I think there were 8 monster trucks and it would take them about 10 minutes to complete each competition (wheelies, car crushing, etc), followed by about 15/20 minutes of filler between each set (an ATV race, interview of the winner of said ATV race, some giveaways for the audience, fun facts by the announcer, etc) then it would start all over again.
The worst thing was the amount of dust. The gentleman next to me said he had been to many of these events and usually there is a water truck spraying the dirt track to keep the dust at bay, but for some reason it wasn’t running the day we were there.
Overall it was enjoyable for my kids; they spent the car ride home talking about how cool it was when the trucks flew through the air and trying to convince me to trade in my Toyota Sienna for something that could crush other cars. I’m glad we experienced it, but the noise/dust/waiting in the heat between sets was a little daunting, although it seemed to not bother the die hard fans who knew what to expect.
Know Before You Go:
Bring ear plugs or something similar.
Don’t forget the sunscreen!
Hagerstown Speedway does not allow you to bring in your own food or drink except water, and I would suggest bringing a lot of water. There is food concessions available.
Bring a toy or something to entertain your kids during breaks.
