Paper – a wordless tale of life comes the DC area April 15-16 at Black Rock Center for the Arts.
The stage is set for a playful mixture of movement and puppetry in which every performance is unique, created in the moment by four experienced actors with backgrounds steeped in puppetry, acting, mime and circus will create these performances in which each will add their own individual and highly specialized skills to the mix.
The story begins with nothing. An empty scene. Suddenly things start to happen. Four busy figures sneak in. Who are they? What do they want?
Paper is wrinkled, folded, twisted, torn down, rebuilt, changed, disappeared – and resurrected. Is it a dinosaur? A bird? Or maybe an ant?
“I wanted to create an imaginative performance in a way that suits all ages. My hope is that we launch the children’s imagination and desire for their own creation,” says director Bernard Cauchard, who continues: “We allow the sound of the paper to take place and instead of words we mix in both jazz, classical and folk music to give more room for the viewer’s own interpretation.”
