Santa’s Paradise Express at Strasburg Rail Road offers up a full day of family holiday fun. The Strasburg Rail Road is a little over 2 hours from DC near Lancaster, PA. The Christmas tradition that began in 1959 is more than a train ride with the jolly old elf. There are shops, rides and other holiday activities to enjoy at the station. Before or after a ride with Saint Nick, children can ride the Pint-sized Pufferbelly & the Cranky Cars, shop for toys & souvenirs, grab a snack at the cafe or pay a visit to Mrs. Claus. Visitors can bring a self-addressed, stamped, unsealed envelope and Mrs. Claus will help each child mail Santa a wish list. Santa mails a personal reply to each boy and girl. Don’t worry if you forget your envelope in all the excitement of your trip to Strasburg Rail Road, the Rail Road Store sells stamps and envelopes.
Climb aboard the historic steam train with Santa to travel down the tracks to Paradise, PA and back on a nostalgic 45-minute ride. Each family has an opportunity to take a picture with Santa and as a special treat, children ages 11 and under will receive a gift from Santa and his helper. Musicians and carolers make their way through the elegant historic train cars providing beautiful holiday music. Parents can sit back and relax on the cushy seats in the coal heated cars as children are surrounded by the magic of Christmas.
