When we heard our friends at Calleva had restructured their summer camps to meet the Covid safety requirements we literally squealed with excitement! There have been so many parts of our lives that have changed throughout lock down that we were so excited for some semblance of normal. And for those of you who have been following along on our adventures, you know how much we value the benefits of being outdoors.

For those of you who have never experienced the magic that is Calleva, I will do my best to capture it, but please feel free to ask any questions you have in the comments below or reach out to me directly. Our 7 year old attended the Explorer Farm Camp last week and loved it!
The Explorer Farm Camp is for kids ages 6-8 offering an abundance of outdoor adventures. Activities include Growing Green, Archery, Survival Skills, Creek fun, Climbing, Challenge Course, & Canoeing. My daughter loved the variety of activities and how each day they explored different areas of the farm.

Part of what makes camp at Calleva so magical is that the activities are simple and engaging. There are a few activities per day which gives campers time to become really engrossed in each activity. My daughter was just as enthralled playing with the mud kitchen as she was going on the zip line or meeting the adorable piglets. There is so much to explore on the 180+ acre farm. On one stream walk they saw a fox, a hawk, a deer with her fawns, crayfish, a snake, a turtle, and fish. With so many things closed and changed, Calleva is allowing children to simply be outdoors exploring and enjoying nature.

The counselors at Calleva are nothing short of amazing! These young people have adapted to the new normal and are able to make even wearing masks at camp fun. Calleva counselors get into the fun with campers, always excited to play. My daughter came home in hysterical laughter the day one of her counselors let the kids cover her with mud.

We never doubted for one second that our daughter was safe while at camp. Calleva has taken the Covid transmission risk seriously and developed Covid policies. Campers are separated into groups with counselors for the week with no sharing of vehicles, locations or equipment. When they are around others, at drop off and pick up, they all wear masks. There are health screenings and everyoneβs temps are checked before gettin on the bus or out of the car in the morning. Calleva has buses that pickup at sites around the area for most programs which makes camp even easier!

Calleva isnβt just for little kids. The Rileyβs Sampler is a popular camp option for kids ages 8-14 offering SUP, Kayaking, Canoeing, Adventure Island, Duckies, Tubing and C&O Adventures. Itβs the best way to beat the DMV summer heat and keep your kids outdoors. There are also programs available at the Virginia campus and even a Surfing overnight at Assateague Island for kids 12-15. Sign up your kids for the best experience of their summer!
Details on camp programs and registration are on the Calleva website.
