Summer Camp is a magical childhood experience that opens up a world of new opportunities. As a child I loved summer camp so when I heard about Family Camp at Camp Twin Creeks I was so excited!

Family Camp is just that, all the fun of Summer Camp for the whole family. Camp Twin Creeks invited our Adventure Crew to experience Family Camp at their beautiful camp in West Virginia. The verdict is in: Family Camp is EVERYTHING!

Family Camp is run pretty much like a regular summer camp, but instead of campers and councilors each family is assigned to a cabin. Camp Twin Creeks really knows how to make camp easy and fun for all families. We had a cabin to ourselves, which was great because our little ones couldn’t hack it as long as the older kids.
The daily itineraries are posted the night before and include several activities, rest and family time. There are activities for whole families, but also options for the kids and parents separately.

Activities included: archery, arts and crafts, zip line, rock climbing, mountain biking, nature walks, pool, tennis, basketball, fishing, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, swimming, camp fires and games.

The meals are all provided in the Dining Hall which also doubles as a social time. In the mornings there was coffee, cereal and fruit available for the early risers to enjoy before the breakfast was served. My kids wake up very early so we were down at the Dining Hall every morning eating, chatting and playing with friends.

It was such a nice relaxing time to connect with my girls. In the evenings there was a happy hour with a cocktail and beer for the parents and bubbly water for the kids. We all hung out playing games before dinner.

Family Camp felt like the first real vacation for me since having kids because I didn’t have to plan activities or prepare food for the family and we had nonstop adventures.

Our first night we went on a creek walk, learned how to make rock face paint and had s’mores by the campfire. My kids were hooked on camp!

The second day the girls learned archery, made stamped jewelry, went fishing, swam in the lake, cruised around the lake on stand up paddle boards (SUPs) and went rock climbing.

The third day we spent the morning at Lake Moomaw. The water was beautiful and we spent the morning swimming and playing on the SUP. I paddled out to some of the islands and could not get over the views! It is hard to believe a lake this beautiful is in Virginia.

After the Lake all the parents had a chance to try their hand at archery while the kids did arts and crafts, zip line or rock climbing. We ended the night with a Camp Twin Creeks style Hollywood Game Night of parents versus kids.

The last day people were packing up and leaving at different times so there were activities to do on your own.

Family Camp is open to all families who want to experience camp together. Many of the families with us at Camp had sent kids to Camp Twin Creeks, or had friends who did. If you or your kids are unsure about camp or if you just want a chance to spend time unplugged as a family, Family Camp is an amazing experience.

Family Camp is definitely more fun with friends so we recommend going with friends, like we did. If you do go alone you will make friends when you get there.

The directors of the Camp Twin Creeks, Iain and Amy, are amazing! They are so passionate about kids having a positive camp experience. It was a pleasure getting to know them and their family.

The Adventure Kids said that the best parts of Family Camp are there are so many bunk beds, eating at the Dinning Hall, and not having to drive anywhere to do so many fun things. Family Camp is simply family adventures in one place like you won’t find anywhere else. We can’t wait for next summer!
