I have been a huge fan of aerial ropes courses for years and was so excited to finally experience one with my family! My husband and I took our 8 and 6-year-olds with us to Tree Trekkers in Frederick, MD and we had the best time adventuring around the treetops together!
TreeTrekkers is an outdoor adventure facility sitting on 30 acres of privately owned and protected Forest in Frederick County. There are 3 main climbing areas each designed to offer a unique challenge geared toward different ages and experience levels.
We started on the main course called The TimberTreks. TimberTreks offers 14 courses all branching off from the same central platform. I loved this setup because even though my husband was exploring the more advanced courses with my daughter and I was helping our younger one on the beginner’s course, we were still able to see and cheer each other on. Because all the courses surround the same platform ( the courses are color-coded to reflect the level of difficulty), friends and family with different comfort and experience levels are able to enjoy this exciting activity together! While The TimberTreks is primarily designed for ages 7 and up, kids age 5 and 6 are able to climb with a parent one on one, as long as they are at least 35 pounds.
The WanderWeb is a separate area designed for younger climbers (10 and under) and is perfect for private group events and birthday parties! Rather than moving through a series of elements like on The Timberrek, the WanderWeb presents kids with a different obstacle in each direction, so kids can create their own paths!
Coming soon is Munchkin Meadow, designed for the youngest adventurers! Opening date is TBD, and we can’t wait to check it out with our younger Adventure Crew members!
TreeTrekkers was not only an awesome physical activity for us to enjoy as a family, it was also an exercise in realizing the benefits of stepping outside of our comfort zones. My son was so proud of himself when he was able to conquer all four yellow courses and I just loved watching his self-confidence grow with every element he was able to complete. My thrill-seeking daughter loved moving through the more daring obstacles, determined to reach the finish even when she thought she had gotten in over her head once or twice. The kids saw their dad be a risk-taker when he took the ‘Leap of Faith’ (he isn’t a huge fan of heights) and it was a great team-building experience for us as a family.

TreeTrekkers typically runs from April through early November, depending on the weather. The office is open for bookings and reservations year-round. You can also purchase gift certificates year-round, which would make for wonderful holiday and birthday gifts during the winter! Tickets are $41 for ages 7-10 and $51 for ages 11 and over. TreeTrekkers proudly offers a 10% military discount.
