One of my favorite adventures of the summer took place in the forest canopy of Lake Needwood at Go Ape Rockville.
At Go Ape’s Treetop Adventure, you travel through six exciting rope courses, each with its own fun challenges, and each ending in its own breathtaking zip line. The difficulty level increases as you go along, but there are always easier routes to choose or easier ways to get across the most difficult challenges.
The adventure began with a safety and practice session, and before I knew it was was sailing through the tree tops like a pro! I loved every moment of our almost 3 hour adventure, especially the ziplines and Tarzan swings! It was challenging. and I was so proud of myself when we hit the bottom of the last course!
I really liked having six different courses to complete, because you get a break between each. This also allows groups moving at different paces an easy place to pass each other. The course is self-guided, so you are free to go at your own pace. I appreciated that there was water available throughout the course. We went in the morning to avoid the worst of our current heatwave, but we were under constant shade so the temperature wasn’t a problem at all.
This is an adventure I would highly recommend!! It would be great for a family with kids 10 or older, a day-date, or even a team building experience for a group! The Delaware and Virginia locations also have a Junior Treetop Adventure course which is great for kids of all ages (39 inches or taller). We made some friends along the way and it was such an exciting way to spend a day at the end of summer!
As parents we are constantly expecting our kids to be brave, be resilient and accept challenges. The Treetop Adventure course required us to do all of those things and more. It was a humbling experience to face fears and push our bodies to do new things. This reminder couldn’t have come at a better time as our kids are starting a new school year filled with challenges and new situations. We can stand beside them on their proverbial platforms and encourage them to take the leap into new adventures knowing we have equipped them with the knowledge and skills to face the challenges ahead. We were invigorated by our Go Ape experience to start this new school year with our kids!
